Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles (AFWLA): “Africa Is Rising”

30 Aug

This evening, Thursday, August 30th, Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles (AFWLA) will host “Africa Is Rising”, a networking social highlighting Africa’s fashion and textile industries, at The Standard Hotel (550 S Flower Street) from 6-10pm. Tina Tangalakis of Della LA is our special guest, and proceeds from all ticket sales will go towards the MacDella Cooper Foundation.

Unfortunately, I already have plans for this evening but if I didn’t I would be there! Hope you all get to enjoy the event!

More info (below):

Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles is pleased to have sponsorships by Arik AirOPIFace 2 Face AfricaDella LAClear EssenceSassy Hair Extensions W.E.T PRMiss Dunnie O and ETHNO Nightlife. AFWLA is encouraging a minimum of $5 donations as 100% of all proceeds will go towards the MacDella Cooper Foundation. All payments should be made via Eventbrite. The first 50 registrants will receive a gift bag featuring items from the generous sponsors.

Gather LA: Girl on a Motorcycle Trunk Show Update

9 Apr

The Trunk Show was a Saturday afternoon delight. Although Carmen and I arrived a bit late, after the initial flux of guests, we enjoyed the ambiance and a glass of wine nonetheless. Gather is in a pretty nifty location, at a fork where Sunset Blvd., Hollywood Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd. all meet. If you’re in the area I would highly recomend stopping buy for some “shoptherapy”.

Upon our arrival we were greeted by the stylish store owner, Katie Kay. She is easy to talk to, welcoming, and obviously has an eye for designers and local collections. She greeted us and gave us a mini-tour of all the new pieces in house: Valou, Ty Nelson, Bohemian Society, Camilla Mikama, Sweet Joey, The Plumed Serpant, Philip & Lilian, Venius Turban, Beanline, Shelley Caudill and of course Kelly Bechtold’s Girl On A Mortocycle collection.

Next time I’ll be getting a Valou arrowhead 3-Cap ring.

Carmen’s in this funky Bohemian Society jean vest, which we adored!

Kelly is a doll. I loved her clutches, belts, and cross-body bags. It was all hawt! Since everything from the Girl On A Motorcycle collection was tempting, I ended up purchasing a coffee colored leather studded cuff. What can I say?

I couldn’t resist.

This royal blue leather blazer is from the Shelley Caudill collection. Seriously, I wanted to add this to my closet, yesterday.

Last thing, I loved this piece from Bohemian Society too!

It was a stylish occasion full of accessories, clothes, and bags. All of which, I still want. Visit www.GatherLA.com to shop till you drop! (or run out of funds)

New at ELLE Communications Event

4 Mar

Thursday evening I had the pleasure of attending the “New at ELLE Communications” event at their newest location in Los Angeles. The festive occasion included hosted eats and drinks, a DIY station, braid bar, nail lounge, photo booth and gift bags.

I was accompanied by my long-time friend Mykel Brooks, dancer, artist and choreographer.

He is a phenomenal individual who comes from a talented family and I’m always excited to be in his company. We spent the evening conversing with talented bloggers, editors and other industry related ladies and gents while getting an early glimpse of ELLE Communication’s latest collections from clients such as Leoluca Handbags, Made for Good, Raven + Lily, Future:Standard, Jedidiah, MusiCares, UNITED Artist Network, GIVEN and more.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kristen Turner, blogger and founder of Glitter ‘N Glue. She had a creative DIY jewelry making station set up where guest had the opportunity to make a unique necklace from colored bobby pins and black laced ribbon (my creation below).

Not to mention Mykel and I ended up crossing paths with fashion journalist and friend of mine, Nyvia Weathersby. It’s always guaranteed to be a fun-filled event when she attends.
