This evening, Thursday, August 30th, Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles (AFWLA) will host “Africa Is Rising”, a networking social highlighting Africa’s fashion and textile industries, at The Standard Hotel (550 S Flower Street) from 6-10pm. Tina Tangalakis of Della LA is our special guest, and proceeds from all ticket sales will go towards the MacDella Cooper Foundation.
Unfortunately, I already have plans for this evening but if I didn’t I would be there! Hope you all get to enjoy the event!
More info (below):
Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles is pleased to have sponsorships by Arik Air, OPI, Face 2 Face Africa, Della LA, Clear Essence, Sassy Hair Extensions W.E.T PR, Miss Dunnie O and ETHNO Nightlife. Kristoff recently stated, in his article titled as such: Africa is [still] on the rise.AFWLA is encouraging a minimum of $5 donations as 100% of all proceeds will go towards the MacDella Cooper Foundation. All payments should be made via Eventbrite. The first 50 registrants will receive a gift bag featuring items from the generous sponsors.

Winning designs will be available from October 10th, and launched at the LAFC Spring 2013 Collections.
The Trunk Show was a Saturday afternoon delight. Although Carmen and I arrived a bit late, after the initial flux of guests, we enjoyed the ambiance and a glass of wine nonetheless. Gather is in a pretty nifty location, at a fork where Sunset Blvd., Hollywood Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd. all meet. If you’re in the area I would highly recomend stopping buy for some “shoptherapy”.
Upon our arrival we were greeted by the stylish store owner, Katie Kay. She is easy to talk to, welcoming, and obviously has an eye for designers and local collections. She greeted us and gave us a mini-tour of all the new pieces in house: Valou, Ty Nelson, Bohemian Society, Camilla Mikama, Sweet Joey, The Plumed Serpant, Philip & Lilian, Venius Turban, Beanline, Shelley Caudill and of course Kelly Bechtold’s Girl On A Mortocycle collection.
Next time I’ll be getting a Valou arrowhead 3-Cap ring.
Carmen’s in this funky Bohemian Society jean vest, which we adored!
Kelly is a doll. I loved her clutches, belts, and cross-body bags. It was all hawt! Since everything from the Girl On A Motorcycle collection was tempting, I ended up purchasing a coffee colored leather studded cuff. What can I say?
I couldn’t resist.
This royal blue leather blazer is from the Shelley Caudill collection. Seriously, I wanted to add this to my closet, yesterday.
Last thing, I loved this piece from Bohemian Society too!
It was a stylish occasion full of accessories, clothes, and bags. All of which, I still want. Visit www.GatherLA.com to shop till you drop! (or run out of funds)
I love trunk shows and I’m delighted to be invited to this one, an exclusive event with Kelly Bechtold, designer of Girl On A Motorcycle. I will be headed there soon. I’ll report back later with the inside scoop.
“This spring GatherLA is welcoming Valou 3-Cap to the family along with leather jewelry crafter Ty Nelson, and one-of-a-kind pieces from Bohemian Society. They are also the first US outlet for Finnish designer Camilla Mikama! Just stocked antique Czech jewelry from New Jersey’s Sweet Joey. They have amazing feather headpieces from The Plumed Serpant and celeb favorite handbags by Phillip & Lillian. Fresh shipments in today from Venius Turbans, BeaLine and Shelley Caudill. Next month GatherLA will welcome Laili Lau.”

It was a busy night but I managed to stop by a swanky, eccentric loft in Downtown LA where the Los Angeles Fashion Council Homecoming Event was held. I arrived a bit past 10 but it was still going on.
I ran into TwoPointOh LA founder and blogger, Kelsi Smith. Speaking of which I should join ASAP! She looked amazing with the accented bright orange belt and as always rocking her smile.
I met Lindsey who is not only a photographer but a menswear designer. Isn’t she fabulous? Love the red lipstick!
Together we celebrated the designer’s return from London and enjoyed previews from: Kittinhawk, Jen Awad, Curly V, Sires Crown Eyewear, Alana Hale, Victor Wilde, Bijou Van Ness and Robynn Molino.
What: Los Angeles Fashion Council Homecoming Event
Where: 600 S. Spring St, PH11, Los Angeles, 90014
When: March 14th, 8pm-Midnight.
Thursday evening I had the pleasure of attending the “New at ELLE Communications” event at their newest location in Los Angeles. The festive occasion included hosted eats and drinks, a DIY station, braid bar, nail lounge, photo booth and gift bags.
I was accompanied by my long-time friend Mykel Brooks, dancer, artist and choreographer.
He is a phenomenal individual who comes from a talented family and I’m always excited to be in his company. We spent the evening conversing with talented bloggers, editors and other industry related ladies and gents while getting an early glimpse of ELLE Communication’s latest collections from clients such as Leoluca Handbags, Made for Good, Raven + Lily, Future:Standard, Jedidiah, MusiCares, UNITED Artist Network, GIVEN and more.
I had the pleasure of meeting Kristen Turner, blogger and founder of Glitter ‘N Glue. She had a creative DIY jewelry making station set up where guest had the opportunity to make a unique necklace from colored bobby pins and black laced ribbon (my creation below).
Not to mention Mykel and I ended up crossing paths with fashion journalist and friend of mine, Nyvia Weathersby. It’s always guaranteed to be a fun-filled event when she attends.
Yesterday, in preparation for the Oscars, guest attended the 4th Annual Valentine Romance Oscar Style Lounge & Party atCafe La Boheme in West Hollywood, sponsored by world-renown couture designer Sanaz Afsar for SAFIR, and produced by Doris Bergman in association with Michelle Lee Faulkner. Every year has been a blast and this year was no difference.
As with each year the classy extravaganza carried a romantic theme that’s portrayed throughout the entire affair. This year the bar was raised even higher with Hollywood couples, Oscar winners, Golden Globe nominees and other industry veterans in attendance. This year, Doris partnered with, Operation Dress Up!, a student-run California non-profit organization. The non-profit was on-site collecting clothing for homeless children and their families. Guest were proactive in donating both new or slightly worn shoes and clothing for donation to Los Angeles-area shelters. Everyone was taken aback but the generosity displayed by “Criminal Minds” Joe Mantegna who showed up with a box-load of clothing for donation to the charity. The box was so big that his assistant had to help carry it inside. This was one of many occurrences where, guests were bringing in donation the entire time.
Every year Doris Bergman ensures guests receive the highest quality of perks and this year she delivered once more! Many of the attendee’s raved how much they adored the ambience and the occasion. “I’ve been to many gifting lounges, but nothing like this! William & Elizabeth Shatner beamed into the party hours before they were leaving for Broadway where Shatner opens his solo show at the Music Box Theatre on February 14, entitled “Shatner’s World: We Just Live In It.” In honor of opening night, couture designer, Sanaz Afsar for SAFIR gifted Elizabeth Shatner with a stunning off-the-shoulder blue/gray silk gown, embellished with hand-sewn Swarowski crystals!”
