Olivia Pope has Killer Professional Style

27 Sep

Over the weekend I starting watching a new show on Netflix, called Scandal ! Not only is the main character played by the lovely, Kerry Washington who is one of only a few African-American women to land a lead role on prime-time television. The first to do so since 1974. Now you can understand why I’m blown away by Scandal and much more!

The show is based on Judy Smith’s life, a damage control specialist/lawyer/PR Executive, who is a co-producer for the show along side Shonda Rhimes, creator of  longtime popular series Grey’s Anatomy. The show is about Olivia Pope, a crisis management specialist who fixes clients. Beyond the plot of the show,  it encompasses some killer fashion choices that Olivia Pope wears that make you want to update your business attire.

It never occurred to me that professional wardrobe could be feminine, stylish and portray leadership. However, after watching this show along with another of my favorites, Damages I want to upgrade my closet with a few Oliva Pope essentials, especially in time for fall.

I want this zip up off-white top!

I’m looking for a new trench but I think I’ll stick to camel but we’ll see.

I need to layer a couple long elegant necklaces, done!

The seafoam blouse compliments the entire ensemble.

Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles (AFWLA): “Africa Is Rising”

30 Aug

This evening, Thursday, August 30th, Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles (AFWLA) will host “Africa Is Rising”, a networking social highlighting Africa’s fashion and textile industries, at The Standard Hotel (550 S Flower Street) from 6-10pm. Tina Tangalakis of Della LA is our special guest, and proceeds from all ticket sales will go towards the MacDella Cooper Foundation.

Unfortunately, I already have plans for this evening but if I didn’t I would be there! Hope you all get to enjoy the event!

More info (below):

Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles is pleased to have sponsorships by Arik AirOPIFace 2 Face AfricaDella LAClear EssenceSassy Hair Extensions W.E.T PRMiss Dunnie O and ETHNO Nightlife. Arik Air is a well-regarded African airline that has teamed with other Africa fashion weeks around the globe. Additionally, Face 2 Face Africa is at the forefront of African media in the United States. In partnering with organizations like the MacDella Cooper Foundation, which provides educational, economic and social relief to Liberian orphans and children, AFWLA aims to incite a shift in the perception of African designers, African cultures and Africa as a whole. The continent is so much more than meets the eye. And much like New York Times op-ed columnist Nicholas D. Kristoff recently stated, in his article titled as such: Africa is [still] on the rise.
AFWLA is encouraging a minimum of $5 donations as 100% of all proceeds will go towards the MacDella Cooper Foundation. All payments should be made via Eventbrite. The first 50 registrants will receive a gift bag featuring items from the generous sponsors.
